As you may already be aware landlines are changing, and the UK’s telephone network is going digital. By January 2027, the old analogue network will be switched off and replaced by new digital landlines which will work using broadband. It is important that we help support members of our communities, especially the more vulnerable, to ensure that they are not adversely impacted by the switch off deadline as best we can.

For your information, there are two campaigns, currently underway that focus on the vulnerable members of our communities:

1. The ‘National Telecare’ campaign relates to customers that use a telecare device such as personal alarms, pendant alarms, lifeline devices and home care monitoring systems. It is important that they take action to ensure that their equipment is compatible with the new digital technology. While many modern telecare systems are designed to work with both traditional and digital landlines, older models may require upgrades or replacements. Users are advised to contact their landline provider for support as soon as possible. Further information is available at: Digital Phone Switchover

2. The BT Connected-Together campaign encourages friends, family, colleagues, neighbours to help support vulnerable members of the community through the switch and helping them to understand why it is happening, and how to prepare. The BT website can be accessed here: Connected Together - All-IP - About BT | BT Plc

Anyone who needs extra support to make the switch to Digital Voice, should register for this using the BT webform. An engineer will then be made available to assist them with transition. The BT guide is available here: A guide to Digital Voice

Let’s talk about … men and suicide

Monday 1 September

Too many men are struggling in silence.

A free community event will take place on Monday 1 September for anyone aged 16 and over who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts, concerned about someone, or affected by suicide in any way.

The event is a powerful opportunity to come together, hear from people with lived or living experience of suicide, and learn how we can all play a part in helping to prevent it.

You’ll hear from voices across our community - including speakers from The Neuk, The Samaritans (local branch), the University of Dundee, and the Health and Social Care Partnership.

Join us for an open and honest panel discussion about why talking really can save lives. You’ll also have the chance to connect with local suicide prevention partners in a relaxed, world-café style space.

We’ll highlight some of the support available locally and break down common myths around suicide.

The event will take place on Monday 1 September from 6.30pm until 8.30pm at North Inch Community Campus, Gowans Terrace, Perth.
