The Square car park - update

We have been provided with information regarding the car park in The Square, Stanley.

A few weeks ago we contacted PKC regaridng the clsoed off spaces and the 'until further notice' nature of the closure without consultation with the Community Council.

The spaces were clsoed off due to long vehicles parking in them and blocking the pavment behind as well as damaging the fence of the house on the corner of the car park/Duchess St.

 

We have been informed that PKC intend on carrying out minor works to the car park entrance and the 'greenspace' opposite the first few spaces.  The intention is to 'move' the entrance slightly and to 'widen' the car park up to level with the 1st school gate.

 

These works will then allow the spaces to be properly marked out and provide parking for longer vehicles as well as leaving the pavment clear for pedestrians.

The Square car park, Stanley - closed off spaces

Stanley car park spaces closed

We recently received correspondence concerning the closing off of 4 spaces in The Square car park without notice and with "until further notice" on the installed signage.
 
We contacted PKC Parking Services for more information on this and received the following reply (edited):
 
"There is an ongoing issue with long wheel base vehicles entering The Square Car Park in Stanley and damaging a resident’s fence in the process. As a result of this there are currently discussions ongoing with Greenspace and Stanley in Bloom to rectify the matter.
 
Unfortunately, we do not have a timescale to give you at present so the 4 spaces will continue to be coned off. I have passed on your concerns to our Parking Operations team who are looking to resolve this matter as quickly as possible."
 
We will post updates as and when we receive them.
